I’m fast becoming addicted to flickr. I swore off of it for quite some time however, the site is just so damn convenient it is too hard to say no. I regretted actually paying for a premium account but, being a control freak, the yearly $25.00 won’t kill me.

I decided I would randomly post pics from flickr just for shits and grins. I took this one a while back at the old Sutro baths here. I have no idea what the latin inscription means or even if it is real.

Ok, I finally found the glitch w/this plug-in. I’ve known about it for awhile but could never get it to work. The author’s site is not in English so no help there. I finally figured it out! It was so simple. The author inadvertently added an extra space to the tag that the plug-in looked for so it failed. Those pesky typos!

Anyway, if you notice on the left side of the ole blog here, I’ve added a new “Plugins I Use” page which lists out each and every active plug-in on my blog.

A very nifty feature when you discover a WordPress function you’d like to emulate. I get swarms of emails asking about my spam filters all the way down to how I make the auto-links on blogger names (even in the comments). Now you know.

Upgrading

I’m upgrading to the newest version of WordPress today. If things are missing, broken, or look funny don’t worry. All will be back to normal by days end.

*Update to the upgrade* lol

All done. The update was simple but I’m always paranoid something will go wrong. I hack the hell out of my blog so I’m surprised it went so smoothly. The only glitch came w/the catergory restriction plug-in. I did a little code tinkering and managed to get it working again. (Pure luck mind you, I was clueless to what the part I took out was supposed to do.) I tested a few comments on the hidden posts however, if you discover a bug or a problem, let me know.

Track This Back Biyotch!

Lately, the evil sp@mmers have gotten good at infiltrating blogs using wordpress and typepad w/trackback sp@m. Basically, they trick the blog into thinking someone has linked back to a particular post and wordpress will post what is called a trackback comment. Of course, the spoofed version is just full of crappy links and words that increase hits from the evil engines.

Today, I installed a new filter that will verify said trackbacks and automatically discard the phoney ones. Hooray!

(or at least in theory, check back w/me in a couple of weeks…)

WordPress Update

I added a new photo manager plugin for the blog. It took me way longer to setup than it probably should have. Just shows how ignorant I am when it comes to php code. Anyway, I got it up and working. I just dont’ have many images to rotate thru yet. Guess I’ll have to start working on that. hehehe

There is also a new update out for WordPress itself. I’m too chickenshit to upload it for fear of problems. I’ll wait till the next one comes along before I make the jump.

Spam Be Gone!

*giggle* Have I mentioned how much I love WordPress? The ability to hold comments for moderation is a godsend when it comes to spam control. I rarely get hit but when I do, I get anywhere from 5-30 “comments” in a single session. It is glorious to not have to delete every comment manually. Just select “mark all as spam”, double check for real comments and then it’s as simple as one more click. Bu-bye spam!
