Book’em Danno

Why do people go beserk on holidays? As if work isn’t hectic enough w/people doing stupid things, I get a call from my friend Tim this AM. Without spilling his kool-aid all over my blog, his LTR came to a crashing halt at about 3:30 am pacific time. I helped out the best I could w/the police details. I feel for him as this was his first really serious LTR. That said, he is better off w/o said loser in his life. Chin up young person!

Work was just off the hook w/similar situations today I’m afraid. Families get together, start drinking and then the fights break out. We also had two 801’s (suicides). The last was very sad as he was only 19. Very sad.

A bright spot in the day. I found out today one of my long time readers is coming into town for the weekend. Won’t have much time to hang out as I’m working both days but some is better than none. He’ll be #5 on the list of readers I’ve met that live out of town. Wahooo!

The Light Goes On

It is times like this I wish I had a better grasp on the finer points of the English language. With my last rant on sexual addiction, I inadvertently implied that my buddy Steve’s post (Bent collective) was about me. That wasn’t it at all

Steve’s post clearly goes into the use of the term “sexual addiction” as a sort of cop-out of personal responsibility or as an excuse for bad judgement/behavior. My rant, on the otherhand, was a whole different discussion on sexual addiction in itself. My reference to him was only meant too show how I got on the topic in the first place. It wasn’t meant to imply I was offended by his post. Nor was it meant to imply that I am guilty of the behavior he describes.

Steve – my friend, rest easy. I am guilty of “foot in mouth” not you. My respect (and lust) for you remain strong as ever.

If you are confused as hell. Start from the beginning.

To Link or Not To Link

I’m on a roll today I guess. After getting a snotty email on why I never linked to someone, I thought I’d post this page as an educational announcement.

I’m not going to list the blogger or the email as that wouldn’t really serve a purpose. However, I no longer try to reason why such things happen as I can only control myself. If you read my blog w/any regularity you know I’m usually pretty blunt. Today is no exception.

There seems to be a lot of confusion on what is considered good blog etiquette. To take the confusion out of it. I’ve taken some time to jot down a few things I think might help.

  • 1. First and always, I blog for me. I also link for me. I link for a variety of reasons known only to myself. When I do link to someone, I do not expect a link in return. However, I am always flattered when I discover blogs linking to me. Anyone is welcome to link to me if they so wish. You do not need my permission.
  • 2. If you link to someone expecting to get a link back, you are probably in for some disappointments. Not everyone blogs for the same reason. Expecting someone to magically know you want a link back is unrealistic. If you take the time to comment (more than once) on someone’s blog, sometimes that is enough. Sometimes it isn’t.
  • 3. If someone not linking back to you is really that upsetting, you should probably turn off the computer and seek therapy. I’m not being derogatory, just honest. Worrying about things you can’t control only serves to make you miserable.
  • 4. Commenting on my blog is encouraged and welcomed. Whether you agree or disagree is not important. My only ground rule is that even if you disagree, be respectful about it. You can vehemently disagree w/someone w/o being ugly, mean-spirited, or flat out hateful. I rarely delete comments as I like to get perspective on my madness. The internet is a powerful medium for communication. However, direct attacts or anything that falls into the above mentioned no-no’s gets deleted w/o a second thought. After all, it is my blog.
  • 5. Very few people speak perfect English. Correcting someone’s grammatical mistakes via a post is usually offensive, IMHO. I often write in improper Enlgish on purpose. Being from the South, I also use a lot of colloquialism. I try to include this in my writing as it gives inflection that you would normally get from my voice. By doing so, you get a much clearer picture of who I am.

That’s pretty much it folks. I might not be the “norm” when it comes to bloggers but I try to fall back on two axioms that seem to serve me best.

1. Treat others the way you would like to be treated. Hence when you are ugly, I’m ugly right back usually.
2. Don’t make assumptions. Ask, if you have a question or unsure of what to do.

I also created this post as a page link in my “Useful Bits” section here as a helpful guide for any future readers/bloggers who stumble over me.

Blog Stuff

Yeah, I’m bored at work..can ya tell w/all the random blog posts?

I’ve been tinkering w/the blog. I added a music link but I’m not liking it. It will probably disappear. I definitely like the 3 column style template though. I also managed to fix all the links messed up during the import from Blogger. I blogged a while back about fixing’em so I finally finished. However, some of the posts w/pics are still throwing the columns off in IE. I don’t use IE so I can’t be bothered to worry about it for now. (*now’s a good a time as any to switch to firefox*)

I’m also thinking of adding a work-out tips section. I get a lot of requests for info on tribe regarding working out and nutrition so why not offer it here too.

Speaking of blogs, sp@mmers have been working overtime as of late. I delete about 10-15 bogus messages from the queue on a regular basis now. God bless WordPress for having a message moderation function. A lot of the free online blogging sites are getting hit big time. I actually had to go back into my old blog links on blogger.com and disable comments. Doesn’t affect traffic here at all but it effectively put an end to the constant junk emails. hehehe Score one for the good guys!

News You Can Use

WOW! Who knew my news commentary would spark a rush of email. I got home to a slew of emails querying why the sudden interest in current events. (and I never understand how some people just don’t like posting to blogs) Gosh folks, I didn’t really mean to sound so self-absorbed. I swear (in my best Paris Hilton voice) I’m not! lol Seriously though, I usually avoid blogging about most mainstream topics as so many bloggers do a way better job of beating the news to death.

My friend Tim always says I downplay my intelligence to avoid sounding arrogant. Well thats probably true but not really the reason behind not being a topical blogger. Truth be told, I consume a variety of news sites on a daily basis. I have a variety of interests and tend to go where my curiosity gets sated the most. I lean more toward science, technology, and advancements in medicine. I try really hard to stay informed of the changes in the world around me. However, the blog is and has always been for me to journal and rant about things in my own life. I’ll probably continue to throw in news that interests me but you won’t see my blog turn into a media outlet. (Lately, I don’t even have enough time to get laid much less be a news hound)

As you can tell from the news I did include, not exactly front page material! Well, I’m home from work. Not a bad day. I spent half on the fire side and the rest on pd side. We had a 217 (shooting) right before I left. Thankfully, it was time for me to go. And w/that in mind, it is time to catch on the Tivo shows!

Night all.

Hello, I’ll Be Your EMT Today…

My mid-term is next week so I am hella-studying. I spent about 4 hours at Starbucks in the Castro cranking out the work. I’m not even close yet. Over a 100 questions on the test covering about 30 chapters. All that said, I’m very excited about my training. I can’t wait till I finish so I can start seeing patients! I can’t believe I waited this long to do it. This swedish couple from Holland saw me studying at The Cove last night and started asking me all these questions. I discovered the husband is the equivelant of a paramedic over there. Too bad he was straight.

I won’t be doing much blogging for at least a couple of days. Today is my last day off this week and I’m hoping to cram 4 more hours in.

Over the past week, I’ve been updating the blog and fixing broken links, images, etc from back when I made the switch from Blogger. A lot of the old pics weren’t displaying properly. Now they show up. I haven’t resized all of’em yet so if you use IE to view my blog you’ll get an annoying gap on the middle column on any of the old pages where a pic loads. The pics are too wide for the column so IE just forces the whole column down. @#$%! (Hint, if you click on the “photo” category you can see every post w/a picture in it. Haven’t finished all of’em but most.)

Anyway, I’ve also been reading some of my old entries and I really felt better after reading this one. I was sorta down and whining about my lack of direction. I’m really proud of myself for getting shit done. Even if my debt has gone up a little instead of down, I’ve taken care of so many things that were nagging at me. I have this intense feeling of accomplishment.

Oh! Speaking of debt, $450.00 later, I got the scooter back yesterday. It purrs like a kitten again. hehehe. It needed so much work I really can’t complain about the cost. Another task I’d be delaying that was driving me nuts.

I’m feeling better so I’m off to the gym to work my “musk-uls”.

Blah Blah Blog

I discovered that one of my old co-workers (from back in TX) reads my blog. Nothing scandalous about that as she is a friend and I miss her. I just forget sometimes how much exposure my blog gets or can get.

I always think of my life as pretty mundane and boring. And it probably is in the scope of things. However, I’ve realized that I live a certain way or have done things that others only dream of. I still have a hard time wrapping my head around that one.

I’m definitely an “out there” person. Meaning when you meet me in any sort of extended setting, you usually come away remembering the experience. (good or bad) I don’t think I’ve ever been shy. I’m told I have an infectious energy that people attrack too. Maybe?
I think it has more to do with my being so open. I’m down right friendly unless given a reason not to be. And having survived some very ugly and painful life lessons, I have a different perspective on life. I guess I don’t have the normal shields that you encounter in most people. That’s what I think attracks most people to me. (or repels sometimes. I’m not so egotistical to think everyone likes me.)

So, of course, my blog becomes a natural extension of that. I’m glad folks like it. If you come away laughing or learning, then it was worth the read.

Theme Update

Well so for the “yeah’s” have it. I guess I can tell who uses IE vs Firefox. Not using IE anymore, I didn’t realize it wasn’t rendering correctly. It shifted the middle column all the way down. My reader Brian pointed it out and with some pic sizing adjustments it appears to be rendering correctly in both now.

I think I’ll stick w/this one for awhile. Thanks everyone for the feedback.

WTF? Where is Moby?

I’m getting a bit bored w/the old theme. I’ve given up on converting my homepage into a theme. I just don’t get enough free time to devote to dissecting the code. Any PHP’ers out there willing to help I’m willing to part w/some cash.

I’m leaning toward this theme for awhile. The categories on the left will disappear and be replaced by a running list of photos. I think that would be kinda neat. Like a “Where is Moby” w/an ever rotating list of pics based on what I’m doing that day. Work, play, school, etc.

What say you readers? Keep it or dump it?f (the theme that is)

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star…

On a happier note, I got my TB (Tuberculosis) test this week. I had to get it done for my certification. Here is my pretty star I got. lol

Pretty!

My doc is gay and his assistant is this incredibly charming and funny English PA. I haven’t been in to see them in about 6 months so it was giggles all around. Not to mention, he hired a very handsome new front desk clerk. Woofie.

Afterwards, I ended up bouncing around downtown looking for sales on clothing. I’m still trying to replace the ruined clothes. I managed to replace a fair share of the stuff that got pinkified (yeah I know it’s not a word). Speaking of laundry, I had to break down and do the deed again. I was so low I was wearing club wear to work. No ruined batches this time thankfully.

Oh, I almost forgot! I have a date. And he’s a blogger! I’ll be stingy and hold onto the details for now. More later, wish me luck?! And… I may have found a roommate. I’ve sorta been hoping to find a roomie come November (my lease is up) to cut back on expenses. So a buddy here may buy a condo soon and he was very excited about the idea of having a roomie. So cross both fingers that it goes better than the last fiasco!

I have more “stuff” to talk about but it’s late and the sleep monster is attacking. Ni’night.
