1031

This is officially my 1031st post here at the ole blog. I meant to post this at the 1000 mark however, I got distracted and forgot. I’m winding up my 3rd year of blogging and still going strong. It has been an interesting three years to say the least. What started as a simple coping mechanism has turned into a very important part of my life.

I’ve met many friends over the last few years and hope to meet more. I’ve also had a chance to examine parts of myself and my life and make changes for the better.1 This past year, I’ve opened up a little more on the private parts of my life in an attempt to paint a better picture of what is to be me. Now, I’m wondering what’s next? Where do I go from here? Do I continue on this path w/the mundane and sometimes not so mundane?

I’ve toyed with the idea of doing a second and more commercialized blog. Mainly, as there are lots of things I want to branch into. I have more than enough space and bandwidth in my ISP package to handle it. But do I have the necessary time to devote to it? That is the big question I’m asking myself right now.

If you had a choice, what would you like to see more of here?

1 The jury is still out on that but I like to think so.

Pissy Missy II

Continuing in my week of sermons and “told ya so’s”. I guess I pissed more than a few people1 off yesterday with my rant about the late (not so great) Jerry Falwell. Not only did I rant here but, I also chimed in all over the blogosphere regarding his welcome demise. I also got about 20 emails from my comments on Joe.my.god’s blog2.

Let me attempt to set the record straight for all the would-be Moby converts. (yeah right)

  • 1. I am not a christian so I’m not a hypocrite.
  • 2. Nor do I believe in your made up superstitious tourist attraction aka hell so save your well wishes on my not-so-safe journey there.
  • 3. I never said I hated him, I’m just glad he is dead. I celebrate his death just as I would Hitlers if I’d been alive at the time.
  • 4. If karms exists, he’ll come back as a poverty stricken black woman struggling to just get ahead in life or even better, a muslim woman in the middle east. Then he’ll get a taste first hand what it means to be a minority or considered property vs. human.
  • 5. I don’t know his family nor do they read my blog. But, did they worry about my feelings when JF blamed every natural disaster in the last 10 years on my people? Nope.
  • 6. Where were your cries of rage when Mathew Shepard was murdered? How bout Qwen? Or, how about the black guy who was dragged to his death behind a pick up truck until his head popped off? Where were you and your beloved JF then? You were standing in judgment. Well the shoe is on the other foot now. I ask you, who is really the hypocrite here?

No, you will find no sympathy here. My sympathy has been all used up on the thousands of gays/lesbians/minorities across the country JF condemned to 2nd class citizenship in his never-ending crusade of intolerance. The bible says “an eye for an eye” after all.3 No, you will only find relief here at the Moby Files. Another wicket and viscious tyrant is dead and the world heaves a collective sigh of joy.

1 Bless their hearts and God bless my spam karma plugin for catching every single one of their love messages. lol
2 His post regarding JF made it on a rather nasty “christian” website of which, I will not link too here.
3 See, I can misquote it too.

Fibber

I found out one of my readers has been lying to me about who he is. He came clean recently in a very dramatic email. I wasn’t overly shocked as I’m not so foolish as to think everyone who reads/comments here is 100% honest. However, I guess it was bothering him hence, the email. He explained he enjoyed my blog because I was always so honest and blunt.1 Turns out, he has only recently come out and not thinking very high of himself concocted a rather illusionary image of himself for the world. Again, a no-brainer. We have so few positive role models as gay men I’m not really surprised. Anyway, he went on to state my blog was the reason he fessed up.

I’m flattered my blog had such an affect however, I think it has more to do with his own conscience than the ole blog. Lord knows, I have enough of my own issues. But, having learned a few things over the years, I gave him the same advice I’ll give anyone who asks (and even a few who don’t). Be honest, be yourself. One of my favorite quotes referenced here is “I’d rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I’m not.” Being true to yourself might mean less friends or even less interest. However, the interest and friends you do get will be legit.2

On a side rant, they say reality is 9/10’s perception. I am a firm believer in that. We spend so much time imagining the world around us and all the bad things that could happen it becomes real. We let fear and anger wrap us in a cocoon of self-doubt and worry. We act on these destructive traits by projecting it onto others w/o ever taking the time to discover the reality. I still battle with this one and it isn’t easy.3 I will add, it does get easier. Admitting it to yourself is the first step. As for my reader, well I can only hope he takes my advice to heart and is better for it.

Gosh! Who knew I was so good at psycho-analysis? Our time is up and that’ll be $300.00 please.

1 Duh.
2 90% of the fags on Manhunt should take that to heart.
3 I know, what a shocker right?

Blogapalooza 2007 II

**Update*** Several folks have already expressed an interest in an Saturday get together as some are arriving Friday and will miss the one on Friday. I’ll try to arrange something for Saturday for those who can’t make the Friday shindig.

Ok blog fans, the date is fast approaching. The big blogger weekend aka SF Pride is not far off. I’m creating a page w/links to blogs or emails for all those planning to attend. That way everyone can rub elbows, talk shop, discuss room & board options, etc.

I know DanNation is also working on a more specific date and time however, I’m just looking for numbers vs events. Once the weekend approaches and more folks have an idea of their schedules, I’ll try to arrange a get together. Again, nothing fancy or overly pretentious, just a space for the group to meet, maybe grab some food or drink, and chat. I took the weekend off so I’ll have time to play vs worry about work. The only kink would be getting called for the EMT gig however, I’m really not expecting to be called in the first group.1

Anway, last year’s gathering was very fun and I got to meet quite a few folks. I’m hoping to add more to the list this year.

1 No, not giving up just being realistic.

Healthcare & Randomness

The city is dropping my insurance carrier this year. Granted I’m not overly happy w/them but I’m not overly unhappy either. At least, I’m used to them and I know what to expect. Now, I have to start over with a new carrier I’ve never used before. I’m reminded of the adage “You know what you got but you don’t know what your getting.“. Very true in this instance. I can’t bitch too much. The city does pay my monthly premiums in full and all of the plans offered are pretty comprehensive. So anyway, I had to trek down to the health care office today, stand in line, and wait just so some lady could look at my form, stamp it, and send me on my way. Today was the deadline too. I’ve been dreading doing it so, as usual, I procrastinated.

By now, several folks have noticed the rotating banners. This one is a full on tinker vs a plugin. However, it is very easy to setup. It only requires one minor code change to get it up and running. Speaking of, I’ve gotten a lot of requests about the plugins I use here on the blog. I’m working on a plugin page that lists them all out along with their respective homepages. The twitter do-hickey on the left has become a favorite for my local friends. I’m so-so about updating it but more than one friend has managed to track me down using it. hehehe. Some people have expressed some reservations about being so “plugged in” however, I like it. And there is nothing that says I have to keep it. I also folded the 100 things page into the blog template. I never did find the time to tweak the master one to make it work with the blog. I’ve given up on it as I’m pretty happy with the current format (for now).

I’m just goofing off today mostly. The medic crew I normally ride with has a second intern so I’m bumped from my ride a longs for yet another month. Nothing I can do about it so no use complaining. I’ll have to do laundry and random chores at some point but nothing else planned. There has been some friction between the roomie and I lately. Once again, he is having an issue with his finances. I finally just decided to put him on a payment plan. I totaled up all of the shared monthly expenses, divided it by half and then knocked off another 15%. This is his share and he knows exactly what is due now and basically splits it between paychecks. I like my home life drama free and don’t mind shouldering a tad more of the finances if it means he will get his share to me consistently and on time. That said, if he can’t stay on top of it, we may have to have another “come to jesus” meeting.

It is a beautiful day in the city here today. Unlike my last weekend, it is sunny and warm. The boys are out in the hood with a vengeance. I think I’ll cut the blogging short for now so I can go for a nice ride on the bike.

Ooops

roblog called me today for some technical advice. His blog disappeared and was troubleshooting it. I had a few tricks up my sleeve but he’d thought of most of them already. It seems all his links and filed were intact however, his index pages were corrupt or gone. Turns out he was just out of server space.

He’d expressed displeasure with his current host and this was the final straw. He made the jump wordpress. If you’ve never seen his blog, hop over and check him out. Give him a big shout and and welcome to the wordpress clan.

Random Smandom II

Today was a very lazy day. Ah the joys of being irresponsible. hehehe I slept until 9:30 crawled out of bed and had some brekkie. I originally had a hot play session scheduled but he called to cancel. Hey, at least he called! No worries, I’ll explain later.

I’m curious. Does anyone ever read bulletin boards? I was walking one day w/someone and he seemed surprised I actually stopped to read the local Bboard in the Castro. I didn’t think it was odd but maybe it is. I’ve never given it any thought but I like doing it. I almost never find anything exciting but it gives me a feel for whats going on in the city around me. Am I weird?

I had a late lunch at Firewood. The prosciutto pizza w/extra meat and an iced tea. Yum! Now, I’m being lazy at Starbucks catching up on my blogroll. I’m doing something I haven’t done in ages. I pick one of my blog links and load all of his links and browse. Today’s pick was homer. I visited each of his blog links. I even added a few to my own list. I also ran into Victor and Tony from v-hold. I snapped this cute pic of little Bruno. ain’t he cute?

How Did You Find Me?

I often see people post search queries on how their sites were found by new visitors. I must admit, I’m always intrigued how people click thru to me. I assume it is mostly thru the blogosphere and that is pretty much correct. However, since my host doesn’t track keyword searches I had to figure another way to find out. With the help of Google Analytics, I’ve come up w/some results. In just a 48 hour period the top 10 keyword searches used to find me:

1.muscle gay
2.porn gay
3.jeans gay
4.gay working man
5.panties pic preview
6.gay sauna
7.butt gay
8.moby gay
9.moby
10.jason staham

I don’t have a clue about the panties one. lol The number one blog referral I get is still from Large Tony. brettcajun takes a very close second place. Of course, this is only a 48 hour picture. I’ll have to revisit in 30 days and see how it goes. I was also really impressed w/the level of detail provided by Google. I even discovered a few things I didn’t now.

1) About 25% of my blog traffic comes from overseas.

2) I get way more non-robot clicks than I realized.

3) I have a huge percentage of ‘return clicks’ meaning folks who visit regularly. (I’m so flattered.)

And?

I haven’t gotten back to everyone lately so I’ll attempt to answer many of your questions here.

Yes, the nipple is fine. It’s still a little tender but well on its way to normal again. I’m flattered everyone is so fascinated by my nipples. hehehe. Actually, it is very flattering and I’m appreciative of the attention.

No, there haven’t been any private posts lately. I’ve been a good boy. Well, other than a few fumblings at the gym but nothing noteworthy. I may go to “church” and worship tonight though. It’s been a couple weeks. Oh! And speaking of the private posts, I found a new plug-in that may fix the comment problem. I’m loading it today. If you are logged in and the hidden posts are gone, don’t fret I’m in the middle of converting from one format to another. Your registered user info will stay the same.

I’ve been chatting/flirting with this very handsome Swedish guy. Without spilling his koolaid all over my blog, he is down in LA dealing w/some problems from the move to the States. He was in SF briefly and this is where he wants to move. However, he is stuck in LA for the time being. We’ve been chatting off/on for the last 3 weeks. Why is it all the guys I fancy are always so fraking far away? Ugh! Apparently, we chatted briefly on gaydar last summer but he says I was very aloof at the time. Not surprising, I don’t invest myself into long distance strangers. Now that he is a little closer, he has managed to worm his way past my first set of shields. We’ve gotten to know each other a bit. If and when he makes it back up here, we’ll see where it leads. I’m in no rush but the attention is very nice.

Speaking of, the M thing is still in limbo. Some days, I wonder if I’m wasting my time and others I feel like I’m just being impatient. I remember how long it took me to finally come to term w/things from my last breakup so I think most of the time its the latter. Either way, I’ve backed off and only time will tell.

**As I was writing this, he came into Starbucks, gave me a hug and said hi. Irony?**

Techno Babble

I added a new section on the left called “Where Am I?”. It is a reincarnation of a previous tag but this one is much much easier to update. The old way, I had to manually post code and pics to the blog profile every time I wanted it changed. Not so with the new method.

The plugin is from twitter.com . What makes it so easy is that you can post updates via the web, text message, or IM. It even comes with an RSS feed! I’m a gadget freak and am almost always within a simple click of the internet in one capacity or another. The only short coming right now is it only does text. It would be nice if I could do images as well. I sent the twitter team an email asking for this feature. Who knows if they’ll listen to me or if I’ll even keep up with it. For now, it has perked my interest.

Do you like?
