Purge

I’m updating my subscriber lists. I’ve noticed that people who register w/online emails like hotmail, yahoo, aol, etc almost never reply back when I confirm their accounts. I wonder why? hehehe

In other, even more boring news, I was up late today and barely made it to the gym. I ran into this guy that I met thru my roomie. He is so adorable and I wanna ask him out but knowing he has already been intimate w/my roomie sort of turns me off. Is that wrong? lol

Did I mention I am happy to back on my old schedule? Abso-fucking-lutely!

Yes, I know the poll thingy isn’t working right now. I also know my email link is fraked up too. It has to do with the widget thingies. I did mention I had a few kinks left. My email is simple. Blogs [at] sfmoby [dot] us.

Ok so I’m done tinkering with the blog. [1]Well, there are a couple of minor bugs I still need to iron out.  The big sitemeter drama this past week was a blessing in disguise.  It forced me to update my template to a newer version.  The code on this one is simpler and better organized.  I also converted all my personal tweaks to widgets instead of manually tinkering with the code.  Well, everything except the pop-up comments.  I didn’t quite get that working correctly.  I got close but the glitch is simply beyond my knowledge base and I haven’t a clue how to fix it.  I guess I’ll have to settle w/page reloads for comments.

Last week was my change of watch at work.  I only got Saturday off.  I spent the evening playing Soul Caliber IV w/Adam and Brad.  It is sort of an updated version of the old Mortal Combat game.  Anyway, the game has a unique unlock function.  After you get so many skill points, you can choose to have the characters strip down to their undies while they fight. [2]You just know a gay guy had a hand in the code for this game.  I had a blast.  We played games, gossiped, and gorged on pizza.

This week has been a bit hectic.  I’ve had a slew of Union meetings to catch up on at work.  Not to mention catching up on domestic chores at home.  Ugh.  Today was my first real day back in the gym.  I loved it!  Now that I’m back on my old schedule, I plan on getting back on track w/my weight loss program.  Remember my plan to get lean?  Well, I fell off the wagon.  Mostly, because of my schedule.  I know, excuses, excuses.  Anyway, I’m back at it, cut me some slack.  And lord knows, the weight I got ain’t hurtin’ me none.

Comment Away

So I think I FINALLY figured out how to convert my comments to a popup box. Feel free to leave a comment and test it out for me.

If you have trouble feel free to email me at blogs [at] sfmoby [dot] us. *Change the brackets to the appropriate symbol for email of course!

Well, as it turns the comments were only working if you weren’t logged in as user. SHITE! Back to the drawing board.

I Didn’t Do It!

For some unknown reason, Internet Explorer has suddenly decided not to load my blog correctly. I wasn’t tinkering at all. I swear! Until I can figure it out, I’ve switched to a bland theme.

*update* As luck would have it, the creator of my template has finally updated it after all this time. I’ve loaded the new version. I plan on widgetizing this one instead of manually tinkering with the code. this will make future changes much easier to handle. I’m also hoping the updated code will allow for some other changes I’ve been trying to make. Stay tuned!

Victim or Fraud?

*Let me make it very clear, my rant today is about my views in general.  I will not tolerate bashing anyone.  Comments regarding the situation referenced need to be in a respectful format, whether you agree or not.  Anything to the contrary will be deleted.*

Many of you may have heard of the recent scandal to blow thru the blogosphere.  If you haven’t here is a quick summation.

  • Blog named Coopers Corridor was about a gay firefighter with adopted kids blogging about the challenges and joys of raising children as a gay man.
  • Blog owner ends blog after a vicious attack by email/posts.
  • Blogosphere expresses outrage over the attacks.
  • Blog turns out to be completely false.  Cooper is not a gay man but in fact a person claiming to be transgendered.  Children are non-existent.  Huge chunks of the blog came from another woman’s blog about her children.

All caught up?  Good, moving on.  While not overly involved in this latest incident, I have fallen prey to such antics in the past. [1]I’m sure you long time readers know exactly what I’m referring to.  I’ve also seen innocent people get drawn into said fallouts.  People who were often innocent bystanders and who were so dismayed by the downright nastiness of others, they gave up blogging all together.  Hell, I’ve even been accused of being a fake myself. [2]The pesky hundreds of bloggers who have met me sort of dispelled that rumor. heehee

Phoenix

I’m sitting in the Phoenix airport waiting for my flight back to Houston.  The trip down was uneventful if a little stressful.  TFA allows me to fly on his benefits so I get to fly for dirt cheap however, I fly stand by.  The other downer is I have to fly thru the airline’s hub.  This meant flying from SFO to HOU and back to PHX.  Considering how much it saved me in cash, I didn’t mind at all. [1]And yes, I plan on showing him my gratitude in person

Flying standby is a tad nerve racking as you are never quite sure till the last minute if you are going to make a full flight.  Both my flights coming in were full.  The SFO to HOU flight, I made it only because the desk clerk was family [2]read gay and liked my look. (If you got it, work it.)  He boosted another passenger to first class which freed up a coach seat for moi.  Very nice of him. Two of the flight attendants were men. [3]read gay, again  The Latin one practically fell over himself flirting with me.  I was sure to text TFA afterwards and ask him what was up with all the slutty flight attendants. hehehe

The 2nd flight was overbooked but a connecting flight was late so I once again lucked out.  I even got a seat w/extra leg room.  All of the flight crew were women so nothing to report.

My buddy Frank had hurt his back so we couldn’t do a lot but he was feeling better and we still managed to have a good time.  Apparently, Phoenix was overcast this past weekend so the temps only got into the frigidly low 100’s.

Frank & Brent @ Pei Wei

I did get a chance to meet fellow blogger and twitter buddy, Brent.  I’m not sure why he is so reserved or shy.  He warmed up to us quickly and was very engaging.  That said, Frank and I had to practically threaten him with bodily harm to get him to go out with us.  It was his birthday weekend (be sure to hop over and wish him a happy belated) and we were determined NOT to let him sit home and hide out.  Finally, he relented and we ended up at Charlie’s (Country Western bar).  Frank ran into one of his friends who was this short, buff, and hairy hottie, aka Steve.  Steve gives new meaning to the term WOOF!

I managed to make a new ‘friend’ of my own  hehehe  Actually, he started it, I just finished it.  I’m not really sure why everyone seemed so surprised when we started kissing.  I mean, I did wait 15 minutes into the conversation to mug out.  That has to be a record or something.

I could write more but it will have to wait.  My flight is here and there are 3 hairy hotties getting on board.  Since I’m standby, I get to board last.  I am determined to get a seat next to one of them.

That Time Again

Vacation that is.  Today is the last work day before I bail for 10 days.  I’m packing the camera and will attempt to take plenty of pics. [1]I make no promises.  The world-wind tour starts off with a trip to Phoenix.  Never been and now that I have a friend living there I’m gonna bounce on down and check it out.

Afterwards, it is a deluxe economy class trip to BFE, aka East Texas, to see the clan.  I haven’t been home in a year so it is time I guess.  On the way back, I’m stopping at my friend Trev’s place for his 40th birfday.  Festivities will ensue.

I may or may not blog much however, expect twitter updates.  I’m looking forward to seeing everyone.  While I’ll probably never move back to Texas, I do miss family and friends.  It is hard to get back as often as I’d like so I squeeze as much time in as I can when I do.

On a side note, I was notified today my blogroll was screwy.  Apparently, the new version of WP requires a category assigned to links for them to be visible. [2]Don’t ask me why, one would think it is obvious.  Anyway, I have corrected the problem.  And while we are on the subject, sending a somewhat snotty email because you notice your link is gone is not the best way to stay in my good graces or on my blogroll.  Just a thought.  🙂

Problem Solved

I can no longer recommend http://1and1.com as a good ISP.  While their services are cheap and easy their tech support is some of the worst I’ve ever encountered.  The (overseas) techs are often completely ignorant of anything but the most basic problems.

After spending almost a week and half going round and round w/them, I fixed the problem myself.  They kept blaming WordPress and WordPress says it was  a standard they were ignoring.  Blah blah blah.

Anyway, I wrote a script and then found an even simpler one that solved all the issues (so far).

The sub-domains

http://blog.mobius.name

http://www.sfmoby.us

are all functioning correctly once again.

Comments II

Apparently, a plugin for using OpenID for the blog wasn’t exactly working.  If you were trying to comment recently and got an error, the problem has been resolved.

One of these days I’ll learn not to tinker. [1]Who am I kidding? I can’t help it.

Finally!

I finally finished back categorizing all my posts. [1]Well 1 or 2 might have slipped thru but I can’t be bothered to worry. I didn’t actually lose as many as I had thought in the last upgrade. I also discovered a few posts were saved but never published. If you are a subscriber and get weird emails from me for posts from years ago, feel free to ignore.

I think I figured out the problem w/my categories. Somehow I had not one but two database tables for categories. *closed eyes* I nixed one. *peeking thru one eye* So far so good.

So far I’m liking the newer version of WordPress. The user interface seems a tad faster. The layout is a bit different but overall nice. It does takes a little getting used to. After the drama I went thru during my last upgraded, I decided to wait a while before I trying again. I’d never had any trouble before and to be honest I think the error was on my part. Regardless, I’m back up to par.

I guess I get to keep my geek card now.
