Thanks for the well-wishes and concerns on the new bike. I’m slowly breaking it in. I went for a ride last night. In a word, SWEET! I had sold my scooter but the guy backed out. No biggie, it’s paid for and I have the space.
As for the safety issues, yeah there is that. However, as Joe pointed out a lot of guys get bikes to increase the perception of coolness, manhood or likability. Not so in my case. I could care less really. I upgraded for a variety of reasons but the biggies were based on practicality.
- 1) While the scooter was great for tooling around the city, I had a really hard time w/it during rain or poor weather days. It is so light that any rain makes it very dangerous to slide around on the street.
- 2) I can afford a car but don’t want the hassles of parking, storage, fees, etc. I have a garage space so storage isn’t bad however, parking is simplistic w/a bike. Fees even less hassle.
- 3) I’m no longer citybound. I can actually get on the freeway and drive over the bridge. While not a primary factor it is nice to have the added mobility.
Working where I do, I hear/see a lot of the accident calls that come in. I’m fully aware of the hazards involved and *cross my fingers* will do my best to avoid them.
In other news, I locked myself out of the apartment yesterday. Completely stupid mistake. Score one for Kletus. Sixty five bucks and an hour and half later, I’m back in. I hate wasting money and that was a waste.
At work, I’ve been on an early shift the last few days training for the upcoming dynamic deployment with fire side. It’s playing havoc w/my sleeping. I have to get up at 6:00am. Today, is the last day, THANK the LAWD! Tomorrow, I’m back on my regular shift.
I haven’t forgotten about the work out routine stuff. I’ll be posting it probably early next week.
Well glad you’re working safety into that bike lifestyle.
You know if you were smart you’d work a buddy system out with Chuck F. on the key situation.
In other news from this end, it looks like its a go w/ Brett coming out the weekend of 4/22. I can pick him up at the airport since he is pondering coming in early around 11am. SOOOO EXCITED!
I did one even better. I just switched to manually locking the bolt instead of leaving the door on autolock
Moby my concern is not with you it is the other drivers. I don’t know what California drivers are like. The other advantage is you can weave in out of cars in traffic. I hear that stuff is the nuts.
As for locking yourself out you should keep a key in your wallet.
work that bike like a M-Fer!
all the girls (aka guys on castro) will swoon.
swooning is good.
